Cynthia Liem (EEMCS) has come up with an app designed to attract a new, younger audience to symphony concerts, currently the preserve of an ageing population. At special ‘bring your tablet’ events in the concert hall, pop-up messages will provide information about the music. It is hoped that this will appeal to young people. The programme is named Phenicx, an acronym for Performances as Highly Enriched aNd Interactive Concert eXperience. It is also possible to follow the score on the tablet, keeping time with the performance. The app is a technological feat developed by the Johannes Kepler-universität in Austria.
